All charitable organizations must register in the State of Hawaii with the Attorney General's office if they solicit funds unless covered by an exemption in the law. To apply for exemption from registration, complete & submit the following form.

Type of Exemption

The applicant must submit substantiation that the applicant is a "church", an integrated auxiliary of a church, or nondenominational ministries, interdenominational and ecumenical organizations, and other entities whose principal purpose is the study or advancement of religion. If the applicant is neither a church nor integrated auxiliary, please submit a copy of your IRS determination letter with this application. Please consult IRS Publication No. 1828 for guidance on religious corporations and organizations exempt from taxation.

Any organization exempt from taxation under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code expressly authorized by, and having an established identity with, an educational institution that is licensed or accredited by any of the following organizations or their successor organizations, provided that the organization's solicitation of contributions is primarily directed to the students, alumni, faculty, and trustees of the educational institution and their respective families.

You must provide evidence that your organization normally receives less than $25,000 annually in contributions such as the Forms 990, or 990EZ or other documentation that states the amount of contributions your organization received for each of the immediate preceding 3 years.
